The Clay Target Section, formally the Shooting Section, was started back in July 1977 by what was known as “The Terrible Five” comprising of Lindsay Hay, Bill Bissett, Murray Cameron, Jock Hay and Bill Nesbit.
These five members represented the Kamo Club at the inaugural North Island Workingmen’s Clubs Clay Target Shooting Championships in Hamilton. The section members now travel to compete against teams from all around the North Island, starting with our own Club holding the North Island Minis and the Mal & Jill Grant Team Trophy, to Pukekohe for North Island Trebles and Single Barrel Championship, Waitomo (Te Kuiti) for North Island Point Score and Single Rise Teachers Cup, Onehunga North Island Double Rise and ending the year at Tauranga (BOP) with the North Island Ball Trap and Gymcrack Championships. We have had many teams and members successful in returning home with many a Championship win.
We have a strong committee of hard workers who keep the section strong. We meet at the Kamo Club but our home shooting grounds are the Whangarei Combined Clay Target Club at Mangapai.
Anyone interested in joining our section can contact George or Toni Gee who can answer any questions you may have about us
